Counseling for Battered Women
This is a term used to describe victimized women who, due to a wide range of possible physical and/or psychological abuses, are not able to protect themselves appropriately. This condition often occurs in women within a relationship in which there is a dramatic imbalance of physical power, age, education or financial resources. Such women almost always need the help of outside support systems and/or therapy to move out of such destructive relationships. Treatment may include individual therapy, safety plans, support groups and social service agencies focused on helping a battered woman develop new sources of strength and independence.
