Blended Family Issues

Blended families have unique needs as they attempt to blend a new parent and new siblings into a functional family system.  Oftentimes, there is also an ex=spouse who may be an active or inactive part of the system, as well.

In blended families, there is usually an increased amount of decision making (i.e.:  How will children be disciplined?  Whose household will move into the other's?  How will decisions be made regarding the discipline of our own and the other's children?)

With help of a professional counselor, many problems (such as anxiety, anger, acting out behaviors, stress, etc.) may be presented.  A focus to fairly meet the needs of each person within the system and to help each individual understand the impact they will make on other members is very important.  Counseling also provides a time for both children and adults to share concerns and feelings at a time in which they may be hesitant to share these feelings at home.
