Texas Department of Health, Public Health Region 8, (210-949-2000, San Antonio). Serves as pivotal agency for prevention of disease and promotion of health in Texas. CIDC (Chronically Ill and Disabled Children's Services, 210-494-2155) Arranges & pays for treatment & equipment for children with medical needs (such as bone, muscle & joint disorders; cancer, including leukemia, cerebral palsy; epilepsy, spina bifida, hemophilia; several burns and other medical conditions. Vision & Hearing Services (219-949-2000) screens and examines children for possible hearing or vision handicaps as mandated by Special Senses & Communications Disorders Act of 1983. Refers when needed. Children's Hearing Aid loan program provides evaluation, aids ear molds and counseling for patient and family. EPSDT (Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment, 210-494-2060) provides medical & dental care for Medicaid eligible under age of 21. County Indigent Health Care (210-949-2000) provides basic medical care to indigent county residents in areas not served by public hospital or hospital district. Does not include Bexar County. Medical transportation (210-949-2020 or 1-800-292-7353) provides medical transportation to eligible Medicaid medical appointments.
