Developmental Problems In Children

Developmental problems may have a life-long impact.  Early diagnosis allows appropriate steps to be taken to provide additional support and resources to meet the child's needs.  Oftentimes schools and teachers may recommend testing or seek professional assistance to evaluate the children's needs.  When a child is not successful in a particular area, it causes a great deal of stress for parents and family members and may have a negative effect on the child's self-esteem unless measures are taken to deal with the emotional needs for both child and family.  Select a professional with prior counseling experience with children, who enjoy working with this population, and who understand the developmental stages and appropriate expectations for children at different ages and stages of development.  Select professionals familiar the school systems, educational system and "ARD" (Admission-Referral-Dismissal) meetings.
