Dyslexia is often undiagnosed and adults and children may experience problems in school, at work or in other environments due to the difficulty processing written word/forms. Dyslexia is not related to IQ, as many with dyslexia often compensate in creative ways. Many are high achievers, memorize exceptionally well and include professionals in various walks of life. Oftentimes, however, others have little or no support and may experience emotional or self-esteem issues, drop out of school due to difficulty managing assignments and educational requirements, or develop acting out or anti-social behaviors.
Recommendations include: education of parents regarding dyslexia and methods to support their child, resources utilized through the educational environment, support groups and therapists familiar with the condition as a support/information resources.
