Eating Disorders

Eating disorders stem from various sources.  Food may be used to comfort or may be restricted as a way to control or deal with situations.  A person's use of food and the rituals and practices surrounding the use of food cause problems in other major areas of their life, as well.

An Eating disorder is a disease exhibit signs and symptoms similar to substance abuse.  Food is used to avoid dealing with uncomfortable feelings or emotions.  Obsession with supply, purchase and preparation of the food is evident; denial of the problem despite negative consequences, loss of control and concern of others regarding the problem appear to have little impact.  If left untreated, eating disorders result in health problems, medical complications and death.

Professional counselors help identify and heal the deeply embedded unconscious causes of food abuse and develop healthy coping mechanisms while concurrently developing healthy eating habits.
