Family Violence
Violence in the family often occurs in family systems where there is repeatedly a sense of helplessness, worthlessness and hopelessness. Violence usually occurs out of a sense of desperation to get another to attend to a particular behavior. Issues to address include anger management and control issues, communication skills, perceived worth of self as well as others, and ways of copy with fear, anxiety, frustration or despair.
By seeking professional counseling when symptoms are first noticed (such as yelling, screaming, grabbing or shaking another person, door slamming, dramatic changes in personality or copy skills, or free-floating hostility, etc.) individuals or groups may prevent violence from erupting.
In severe cases, such as battering, safety issues must be immediately addressed as well as therapeutic interventions. (Also see "Abuse", "battered women", 'violence: school", "violence: workplace', "anger issues').
